Every August for the past four consecutive years, the Patterson family gathers together at Fall Creek Falls. This is a tradition that dates back to the 1970s during Boyd M and PJs childhood. And for a tradition inside tradition, our foursome keeps track of how many deer we see during our annual weekend trip. Last year we counted a total of 35 deer; this year 17. As we approach the park
entrance in day one, we each take turns guessing how many deer we think we'll see. The winner enjoys the simple satisfaction of guessing closest until someone hits the # and then it needs to be exactly. We all guessed numbers 26 or higher this year. Still fun searching for the deer.
Our weekend usually kicks-off with a walk to dinner at the All-you-can-eat Seafood feast: gumbo, crab legs, shrimp, catfish, corn on the cob, salad bar and more await! A leisure walk back to the cabins and great conversations wrap-up the night.
Sleeping-in late is always encouraged, followed by a long, leisure home-cooked Southern breakfast. One needs to prepare for hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing and swimming -- all in the same day no less!
Saturday we hit the trails! Some go on foot, others on bikes. There are many scheduled and unscheduled activities to take advantage of at FCF!
Sunday, we pack up, and a few of us stick around for another hike and a farewell picnic.
Always. Special. Memories.
